Tall Ships Regatta

The Russell Boating Club Tall Ships Committee are thrilled to announce that the iconic Tall Ships Regatta and Hangi will be back again in January 2024. The Regatta will include 4 divisions, Tall Ships, Classic Invitation, Junk Rig and All Comers. Racing will start off the Russell wharf at mid-day.

Race entries will be available on-line from 23rd October until 30th December via the “Online Entry’ link below. Late entries will be available on race day at the Russell Boating Club.

The Regatta Briefing will get underway on race day at 0900 hrs at the Russell Boating Club. Attendance is required by either the Skipper or a member of the yacht crew.

Hangi tickets are $20 and will go on sale from 0800 hrs at the club rooms and from 1600 hrs at the Marquee. A vegetarian option will be available. 

The Marquee bar opens at 1700 hrs with prize giving and the hangi getting underway a little later. As the venue is licensed to sell alcohol, attendees must sign in and get a wristband on entry through the Marquee. Proof of ID may be requested, and BYO is strictly prohibited. under our bar license.

Regatta Divisions

Tall Ships Division:

Monohull vessels of not less than 30 feet [9.14m] on deck, with 2 or more masts. May include square rig as well as fore and aft rig. Note that eligibility to race in this division is by invitation only, therefore early registration is advised.

Classic Invitation Division: 

Monohull vessels of a recognised “classic type,” not less than 22 ft. (7.7m) on deck with any type of rig. Note that eligibility to race in this division is by invitation only, therefore early registration is advised.

Junk Rig Division: 

Open to all Junk Rigged vessels  not less than 22 ft. (7.7m) on deck .

All Comers Division:

Open to all sailing vessels not meeting the criteria for Tall Ships, Classic Invitation, or Junk Rig divisions. All Comers division includes monohull and multihull vessels not less than 22 ft. (7.7m) on deck, with any type of rig.
