Paihia Power Paddle 4 June 2018

The Paihia Power Paddle is the final event of the annual Bay of Islands SUP Triple Crown, which attracts paddlers of all levels from all over New Zealand. The event takes place on the waters around the Waitangi Bridge.

The pro paddlers will be given a more challenging course involving some ocean-side elements, while for those who prefer flatter water, the racing will be up the Waitangi Inlet towards the beautiful Haruru Falls.

The total race distance will be about 3km for the surfboard and one-design classes, and 6km for the open classes. Not into racing? Just enter the 3km cruise, come in fancy dress, enjoy a leisurely paddle and you could be going home with even more prizes – there will be prizes for best costumes too. And of course, yet more amazing spot prizes from the local businesses and community!

Even if you don’t have your own paddleboard, there will be a full fleet of rental boards available, for every ability level. Much more information and online booking at the website.

Because of the relatively early morning high tide time, the racing will be run late morning, and the plan is to have the event finished by 2pm at the latest, thus allowing plenty of time in the afternoon for relaxing, sightseeing etc.
